Objectives for the week of October 11

Vocabulary words this week are common educational words.  The following words are important for all Middle School students to know, understand and use. List 2:; 7/8th grade. No test for 6th grade.

 Standards: Vocabulary Acquisition and Use: L6.4, L6.5, L6.6, L7.4, and 7.5, L7.6 and L8.4, L8.5 L8.6

6th grade: Students will continue with the stages of the Writing Process this week. They will complete a short writing project, to practice using the stages of the writing process. Students will write a descriptive paper.  Students will complete several prewrite activities to gather ideas to write about.  The students will write a rough draft, revise the draft, proofread and present it on Friday. Students will NOT have a vocabulary test this week.

Standards: Writing 6.3, 6.4, 6.5, 6.6 and 6.10

 

7th grade:  Students will review their vocabulary words and definitions. We will discuss the differences in definitions of their words.  Students will continue with the stages of the Writing Process this week. They will complete a short writing project, to practice using the stages of the writing process. Students will write a personal narrative, choosing from a list of prompts.  Students will complete several prewrite activities, including developing characters, plot, theme, setting and deciding on Point of View.  The students will write a rough draft, revise the draft, proofread and present it on Friday. The Vocab test over list 2 will be on Thursday.  The new vocab cards will be due on Monday.

 Standards: Writing W7.3, 7.4, 7.5, 7.6, 7.10 and Language 7.1, 7.2, 7.3

8th grade: Students will continue with the stages of the Writing Process this week. They will complete a short writing project, to practice using the stages of the writing process. Weekly Objectives 10/3/16

6th grade:

 Students will review their vocabulary words and definitions for list 2.  Due to the NWEA testing last week, we didn’t have the vocab test.  We will continue reviewing the 8 parts of speech and learning the stages in the Writing Process this week.  The stages Prewrite, Rough Draft and Revision / Peer Review will be discussed and added to their learning journals.  Students will practice revision on writing samples.  The Vocab Test will be on Thursday and the new vocab cards will be due on Tuesday as we do not have school on Monday. 

Standards: Writing 6.3, 6.4, 6.5, 6.6 and 6.10, and Language 6.1,6.2,6.3

Vocabulary words this week for 6th grade are common educational words.  The following words are important for all Middle School students to know, understand and use. Vocabulary Cards are due on Monday and the Vocab test is on Thursday. Citation, Classification, Collaborate, Describe, Evidence, Fact, Inquiry, Judgment, Perspective, Paraphrase 

Standards: Vocabulary Acquisition and Use: L6.4, L6.5, L6.6, L7.4, and 7.5, L7.6 and L8.4, L8.5 L8.6

6th grade English:  Students will learn the “common educational” definitions of the vocabulary words and discuss how they will be used in their other core classes. The Vocab test over List 2, will be on Thursday.  Students will continue learning an overview of the 8 parts of speech, stages of the writing process and practice note taking skills. Students will develop writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting or trying a new approach. Students will apply the new information by using the first stage, Prewriting for a narrative. The students will continue writing in their daily online journal.

Week of 9/12

Weekly Objectives 09/12/16

 All students 6, 7, and 8th will start Vocabulary this week on Thursday.   The students will receive 10 words a week.  They will create vocabulary cards.  The Vocab cards need to have dictionary definitions on one side and a picture showing what the word means on the other side.  The students will receive new vocab cards on Thursdays.  They will have a class period to work on their cards, and the cards are due the following Monday.  The test will be on the next Thursday.   This will be ongoing all year.

6th grade: Students will continue journal writing every day. Students will complete a roundabout writing activity. They will collaborate within their group to write a narrative.  Students will begin discussing the 8 parts of speech, reviewing what they are and correct usage.  Vocabulary will start this Thursday with a list of common core words important for all students to know and understand.

Welcome to the 2016-17 school year!!!

Welcome!!  Excitement fills the air, the first week of school, students and teachers alike scramble to learn names, faces and room numbers. In English classes this week, we will develop some basic class rules and procedures, complete some activities to develop relationships and trust, and get to know each other.  I am happy to be starting the year, and would like to extend a warm welcome to all students, and parents!
